Bangladesh taking jabs to people’s doorstep, 3.7 million jabs arrive
The government has decided to set up more vaccination centres across the country to speed up the inoculation drive especially in remote areas amid a surge in Covid -19 infections. In addition to the existing vaccination points, works are going in full swing to set up around 14,000 points in the same number of wards in different unions all over the country with a goal to vaccinate as many as 10 million people on a monthly basis. Currently, the vaccination programme is being run through 1,005 vaccination points across the country, and 150 doses can be administered at each point a day. Moreover, two separate consignments, dispatched from Japan and China, comprising a whopping 37.7 million jabs reached the capital, owing to the prudent leadership demonstrated by Honourable Prime Minister (HPM) Sheikh Hasina.

8000 doctors, nurses to be recruited, India sends in Oxygen Express to Bangladesh
The government, on an emergency basis, is going to recruit 4,000 doctors and the same number of nurses with the aim of improving the quality of medical services amid the prevalence of the pandemic. To this goal, the health ministry has asked the authorities to skip viva and police verification to fast-track the recruitment. Meanwhile, Indian Railways, in a first, delivered medical oxygen to Bangladesh amid the Covid-19 pandemic keeping up with the request for urgent supply of Oxygen to help address respiratory diseases amid the pandemic. Last week, another Oxygen Express of the Indian Railways, carrying a second tranche of 200 tons of LMO, has embarked on its journey to Bangladesh.

AL government’s financial assistances for 1.7 million people, mega scheme for returnee expats
At the directives of Honourable Prime Minister (HPM) Sheikh Hasina, the government recently distributed cash support to around 1.72 million day labourers, transport workers, and small traders, as part of its recent announcement of a relief package for the ultra-poor and destitute affected by the pandemic. By a similar token, a big project has been rolled out aiming to arranging for rehabilitation for as many as 200000 Bangladeshi workers returned home amid the pandemic. Under the scheme, the returnees will be provided with orientation, counseling, cash assistance alongside other employment related supports. Under the able leadership of HPM Sheikh Hasina who also leads the Awami League, an array of similar measures had been devised and implemented in line with the emergence of Covid-19 to help people cope up with losses due to the pandemic induced shutdown.

Bangladesh gets $20.13bn investment proposals from 153 investors
Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has received investment proposals amounting to around US$20.13 billion from 153 investors for the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Chattogram for setting up their factories. In response, the relevant authority has already allocated over 6,000 acres of land among the investors. According to media reports, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar is one of the most suitable sites for setting up industrial establishments in the country because of its proximity with the strategic location of the Dhaka-Chattogram industrial corridor while business and living costs are significantly lower at Mirsarai as well as in Chattogram division than other developing cities in the world.

AL government introduces new stimuli for tourism
Bangladesh Bank (BB) has instructed banks to start disbursing a stimulus package for the tourism and hospitality sector, one of the most financially promising areas of the country, battered by the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. The stimulus package announced by the central bank recently, is expected to help the sector overcome the fallouts of Covid-19 that have severely affected tourism and hospitality, one of the country's 15 major sectors. As per the BB's guidelines, hotels, motels and theme parks will receive working capital loans from banks for a period of one year at the rate of 8% interest. Of the interest rate, the government will bear half and the borrowers will have to pay the rest.

Bangladesh seal T20 series against Zimbabwe, Australian cricket team arrives Bangladesh
Bangladesh clinched the T20 series against Zimbabwe by beating the hosts in the third and final cricket match in Harare on Sunday. The Tigers completed their second highest run chase in a Twenty20 international to beat Zimbabwe by five wickets. On the occasion, HPM Sheikh Hasina have extended heartiest to the Bangladesh national cricket team. Meanwhile, the Australian cricket team arrived in Bangladesh today to take part in the first-ever bilateral T20I series between the two countries amid tight security protocols.
