Honourable Prime Minister (HPM) Sheikh Hasina said the Asian countries must combine forces to help address their common challenges for betterment of future generations. "The Asian countries have common development challenges and should face them collectively," the premier said in a video statement at the 27th International Nikkei Conference on Future of Asia in Tokyo. Placing five proposals where the Asian countries can best cooperate for this goal, the premier mentioned cooperation on best use of ICT, safeguarding fairness and justice, sustainable and balanced development and establishing win-win international relations would surely lead to the path of common prosperity.
During an address marking the "International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers-2022”, Honourable Prime Minister (HPM) Sheikh Hasina urged the Bangladeshi peacekeepers to discharge duties accordingly as establishing peace was a noble task, urging them to brand Bangladesh a powerful peace promoting country. Moreover, the Bangladesh premier expressed her gratitude to the Bangladeshi peacekeepers as they brightened the country's image through their humanitarian and social works alongside the peacekeeping tasks. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Dhaka has applauded Bangladesh for the sacrifices it has made in being one of the world’s top contributors to UN peacekeeping operations.
Bangladesh has been elected to the governing councils of all four regional institutions of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) for the period of 2022-25 in Bangkok, Thailand. The election was held at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok, Thailand as well as at the ESCAP Subregional Office for the Pacific, Suva, Fiji, and at the UN Compound, Beijing, China simultaneously this week. Bangladesh is the only country besides India that is elected to the governing councils in all four regional institutions of UNESCAP. This victory stands as a shred of glaring evidence that how the Asia-Pacific leadership values Bangladesh's rise under the prudent leadership of HPM Sheikh Hasina in this largest UN organisation.
The Bangladesh-based Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) has bestowed the much coveted rural development award in recognition of her contribution to rural development. “My party Awami League has given priority to the development of rural areas of the country as desired development is not possible leaving the grass root people behind,” added the Premier upon receiving the award. According to the premier, her party Awami League had undertaken the necessary plan even when it was outside the state power and that is why after coming to power, it has been able to take the country ahead by working as per its plan.
Envisaged by HPM Sheikh Hasina, the widely endorsed housing project has become an instrumental one with around 3.53 million homeless from 778,040 families have found a place, a permanent address which they have only dreamt of. The Ashrayan project was taken up to rehabilitate every homeless, landless and uprooted family around the country who lost their homes to cyclones and river erosion. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was directing the project. To date, 778,040 families have been rehabilitated under this project with the homeless families received a 2% land, a two-room house equipped with a kitchen, a toilet and a bathroom.
As part of HPM Sheikh Hasina’s plan to make the economy more inclusive, efforts are underway to increase monthly allowance for persons with special needs under the social security programme in the next budget for fiscal 2022-23. Since voted back to power in 2008, HPM Sheikh Hasina has introduced a raft of measures for the welfare of the people that impacted lives of as many as 2 million people with special needs while they are currently getting regular monthly cash allowance. In the next fiscal year. Once the new extension scheme come into effect as many as 300000 people will become recipient of the scheme.
